"10-Year-Old Schoolboy Killed in China Stabbing Near Japanese School Shocks Community"

A 10-year-old boy attending a Japanese school in southern China tragically lost his life after being stabbed on his way to class Wednesday, according to Tokyo’s foreign minister. This is the second knife attack near a Japanese school in China in recent months.

The boy was attacked approximately 200 meters (650 feet) from the gates of the Japanese school in Shenzhen, a major tech hub with many Japanese businesses, according to China’s foreign ministry. A 44-year-old suspect was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody, as confirmed by Shenzhen police.

Authorities from both Japan and China have not disclosed the nationality of the victim, though enrollment at the Shenzhen Japanese School requires Japanese citizenship, according to the school’s website.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa expressed deep regret over the incident, stating, "The fact that such a despicable act was committed against a child on his way to school is truly regrettable." She emphasized the gravity of the situation and revealed that Japan has once again urged Chinese authorities to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in the area.
