Adviser Nahid Islam stated that the names of 800 martyrs have been identified so far. The list of those who sacrificed their lives in the student-people's uprising is being compiled and updated.
On Wednesday, September 4th, Adviser Nahid visited the home of Shaheed Shafiquddin Ahmed Ahnaf, a 17-year-old student killed during the uprising, in Paikpara, Mirpur. During his visit, he met with Ahnaf's family and shared this information.
He remarked that the way students took to the streets during the mass uprising led to the creation of a new, independent Bangladesh. He added that a memorial gathering would soon be organized, bringing together the families of all the martyrs, and invited them to be present at the event.
Emphasizing the importance of remembering those who were martyred during the movement, Adviser Nahid said that the country owes its existence to their sacrifices. He acknowledged that many unnamed students and ordinary citizens lost their lives in the struggle, and efforts are being made to document their names.
Adviser Nahid further assured that the responsibility of building this new Bangladesh, achieved through the blood of student-people, is now in their hands. He promised to stand by Ahnaf's family at any time and under any circumstances in the future.
Before leaving, Adviser Nahid inquired about the education of Ahnaf's younger brother. During the visit, Ahnaf's parents, two brothers, and aunt were also present.
Shaheed Shafiquddin Ahmed Ahnaf was a student in the 11th grade at BAF Shaheen College in Dhaka. He was tragically killed by police gunfire on August 4th in Mirpur-10 during the anti-discrimination student movement.
